Did we all enjoy that storm that came barreling through Friday night? It hit us with no real warning and was pretty wild. It knocked out power all over Maryland and some of you are still out as I type this. We were pretty lucky here we only lost power for about three hours, so when the morning came along with those insane triple digit temperatures we at least had the ability to keep ourselves cool. In all here in our part of Essex we received a little damage, the worse being that downed tree just a block up from us, it did get windy and at one point I thought the pool was going collapse, but we got very lucky.
But what about that storm? It is called a Derecho, which is really just a big wind storm like a hurricane, but unlike a hurricane were the winds don’t swirl. Instead they blow in a straight line much like an arrow, powered by all the hot air that was building up all week they move very rapidly and hit just as hard as hurricane in a straight line. In fact this storm moved so rapidly we barely got any warning!!! Luckily for us all the follow-up Derecho that was due to hit us on Saturday night swerved to the South, and we only got mini-me version of this weather condition early Monday morning. They say a Derecho only appears once ever 5-10 years and we got two and a bit in 48 hours? Me thinks, we are going to see a lot more extreme weather over the next few years…
